NAICS (North American Industry Classification System)
This system was developed to reconcile the two different Standard Industrial Classifications that were created by the U.S. Government and by Statistics Canada to classify industries and business sectors in the two countries. As a result, since the older systems are still in use for various purposes, we now have three separate industrial classification systems turning up in information sources.
NAICS is used in the following sources (among others):
- Small Business Profiles (Performance Plus) (for profiles created since 2000). SBP has a keyword search which is preferable to codes for searching in most cases..
- Business Source Complete (EbscoHost) Article summaries often list one or more NAICS classification code links covering the topic of the article. Clicking on a NAICS classification link will retrieve other articles that contain the same NAICS code.
- Annual statement studies ("The RMA Book"). Click on the link for location and availability.
