Small Business Profiles / SME Benchmarking Tool

Small Business Profiles are available from Industry Canada through their SME Benchmarking Tool (www.sme.ic.gc.ca). The benchmarking tool was formerly called "Performance Plus".
The profiles present selected revenue, expense, profit and balance sheet items as well as financial ratios for small businesses in Canada (businesses having annual revenue between $30,000 and $5,000,000).
The Profiles are produced using information extracted from tax returns submitted to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
Profiles are published every two years. The current (August, 2009) version of Performance Plus provides data for 2006 and 2004, with 2008 data due to appear shortly.
Earlier data, back to 1993, are available on request through the RRC Library's membership in Statistics Canada's Data Liberation Initiative.
