COVID-19 - RRC Library Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is the physical Library open?

Due to COVID-19 restrictions the Notre Dame Campus and Exchange District Campus Libraries are now closed. Please note times for online service shown on the Library home page. Contact the Library to arrange pickup and drop-off of materials or check the information below.

If I'm not at the Library on campus, how I get assistance?

We are able to assist you through our online service desk. It is open five days a week during the following hours:

Monday - Thursday  7:45 am - 5:00 pm
Friday  7:45 am - 4:30 pm

To connect with us online, click on the ASK US bubble on this website. A friendly staff member will be there to start a chat. All questions are welcome.

Is the Library lending out print books, journals, and DVDs?

Yes. Print materials and DVDs are available to be signed out. Place a request in OneSearch and we will send you an email when your item is ready. Items can either be picked up by appointment Monday-Thursday 7:45 am -4:30 pm, or Friday 7:45 am – 4:00 pm, or they can be mailed to you.

Please note: Borrowing of Library materials is limited to current RRC staff and students.

Can I borrow AV equipment?

Yes. All of the Library’s AV equipment is currently circulating. Please use the AV Booking Request Form or contact us at library@rrc.ca to book your AV equipment in advance. For more information, please check the Audio Visual section of the Library’s website.

Can I still receive help from RRC Library staff?

Yes, staff members are monitoring chat and email during Library hours. To contact us, email the Library at library@rrc.ca or click the Ask Us bubble below.

How can the Library assist me through chat and email?

Through online chat, email, and virtual meetings, Library staff can assist you in…

  • Gathering together online course materials, whether from the Library collection or external sources such as websites and open-source videos
  • Troubleshooting technical issues related to the Library's electronic resources and applications
  • Addressing copyright concerns related to transferring courses to an online environment
  • Locating sources for an assignment or other research
  • Obtaining electronic resources from other academic institutions using Inter-Library Loan
  • Learning how to use online collections and databases

Library staff welcome all questions and will do their best to guide you in the right direction, even if they don't have an immediate answer at hand.

Can instructors request Library Instruction for their classes?

Yes, the Library is currently offering Library Instruction. For more information, visit Services - Reference and Instruction.

Are tutoring services and other academic supports still available?

Yes. The Academic Success Centre has moved all of its academic supports online. Check their website often for details and updates. If you have a question about supports available through ASC, please contact us by clicking on the Ask Us bubble below.

Can materials still be placed on course reserve?

Only electronic materials may be placed on course reserve.

Is copyright assistance available?

Yes. Our copyright officer is available for consultation. Please send inquiries to Ebony Novakowski at enovakowski@rrc.ca.

I used to be able to visit the Library’s Help Desk for technical support. Is this service available?

An Online ITS Service Desk is available Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and can be accessed via the ITS Service Desk webpage. Note that staff and students need to log in with their RRC username and password to access this page.

Can I still place requests on items?

We are now circulating Library materials, and requests may be placed. You will be notified when your item is ready to be picked up. Due to COVID-19 regulations wait periods will be longer than normal. 

Is the Inter-Library loan service available?

ILL is still in operation but is limited to electronic resources. Those requiring ILL services can email illmwrr@rrc.ca or fill out the ILL form online.

What if I have outstanding materials and equipment?

Items may be returned in the book return dropbox outside the exit doors of the EDC or NDC Library locations. There may be a delay before items are discharged from your account.
