RRC Historical Publications Digitization Project

Digitization Pilot Project

The project, initially carried out during June, 2017, digitized a selection of College Calendars and staff newsletters from the RRC Library's collection. The Library is in the process of continuing the digitization of historical documents.  We will add to this collection in the coming months.

If anyone has old College publications to donate (or loan) for scanning, please contact the NDC Library Information Desk at 204-632-2233 or email library@rrc.ca.

The Pilot Project

These links to 31 course calendars and 36 newsletter issues from the RRC Library's collection of historic College publications is a pilot project to test procedures and techniques for creating a true digital collection of these documents.

The project arose from two fortunate circumstances: First, our acquisition of a Xerox multi-function printer capable of mass scanning of pages and the production of searchable PDF documents, and second, the availability of a Language Training Centre student, Ms Sanober Sultana, for a 3-week placement as part of the LTC's program of providing opportunities for students to experience a Canadian workplace environment.

Ms Sultana, who has a Masters degree in Library Science from the University of Karachi as well as professional library experience in Pakistan, scanned the documents and created basic metadata records, including a full-text field, for all these items.
