RRC Guides : PROCEDURE 1.0

Using Shared Content

The Libguide software allows us access to a community of guides. we are able to use and integrate this content within our own Guide collection.

BORROWING MATERIAL

  • When you discuss creating your guide with The Review Committee, you should mention that you will be incorporating borrowed content. If the decision is made after this proposal has been accepted, please let the Committee know.
  • When you use borrowed content, you will be prompted to ask permission from the lending library. The owner of the guide you are using will be notified automatically that somebody is using the content -- this does not mean they have given blanket permission. An email should be sent to the guide owner explaining your intentions and asking permission to use the content.

example:

Hello, my name is { your name here} from Red River College Polytechnic in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

I would like permission to use {insert name of page/box - exactly what you want to use} from your {name of libguide} in our {insert name of your RRC Guide}.

We always list sources of borrowed material in our guides.

Thank you for your consideration,

{your name here}

If you do not receive a response from the libguide owner OR they say that the content cannot be used, it can't be used in your guide.

  • All borrowed content must be sourced. A line of text in Heading 6 style should be inserted at the bottom of the content. Hyperlink back to the source guide.

example:

source: {name of library} : {name of libguide / name of page}

source: Red River College : RRC Guides : Policies & Procedures / Using shared content

LENDING MATERIAL

All our guides have been set to "shared content." This means that we have given permission to lend content to other libraries. If you, as an owner of an RRC Guide, receive an email request asking permission to use content from one of the RRC Guides, we will give permission. Please use the following message.

Hello,

Thank you for your request to use {insert name of page/box} from the {name of guide} in our {insert name of your RRC Guide}.

We are happy to share our content with other collections. We ask that you please include a link back to the source.

Thank you for your interest,
