Inter-Library Loan Policy

What is an Inter-library loan?

An inter-library loan is a transaction in which a library borrows for its users material from another library. The purpose of the interlibrary loan service is to increase access to information by making materials in other libraries available to the RRC campus community. Borrowing occurs locally, nationally and internationally.

  • All RRC students, faculty and staff may request interlibrary loan service.
  • Material will be requested from another library only when it is not available in the RRC Library collection.
  • Maximum use will be made of libraries in Manitoba and nearby western provinces. When an item cannot be located in Canada, the requestor will be consulted to see if the search should be pursued outside of Canada.
  • The RRC library does not charge for interlibrary loan transactions.
  • Material must be returned on time so as not to jeopardize RRC interlibrary loan privileges with the lending library.
  • Fines will be levied for late return of interlibrary loan materials.
  • The RRC Library similarly loans materials to other libraries. Materials that are in RRC Learning Centres, in the reference collection, or on reserve are not available for interlibrary loan.
  • Interlibrary loan requests must be submitted online through the Library’s web site with complete bibliographic information. Requests will be limited to five a day.
  • Books are loaned for two weeks from the date the book is received. Renewals are possible if requested prior to the due date and if no holds have been placed on it by the lending library. Journals do not circulate but specific articles will be photocopied and sent.
  • When an interlibrary loan item is received by the RRC Library, the requestor will be notified by telephone and the item held for pick-up at the Circulation Desk. Requestors will also be notified of cancellations or when items are not located.
