COVID-19 - Library and Academic Services Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is the physical Library open?

Both our Notre Dame Campus Library and Exchange District Campus Library are open, however they are not open every day! Before visiting on campus, please refer to our Library hours for the most up-to-date information.

Where can I find information about the College's COVID-19 guidelines?

Please refer to RRC Polytech's Coronavirus Information page. Here you will learn about safety requirements, campus services, student supports, and other important information related to COVID-19.

Note: A Vaccine Passport is now required to enter College spaces. Step-by-step instructions for applying for a vaccine passport are available on the Proof of Vaccination page or the video tutorial Vaccine Passport: Mobile Safety App (30 min).

What in-person spaces and services are available?

The following spaces and services are currently available at the NDC Library:

  • Individual study spaces
  • One printer/photocopier
  • Three computer stations
  • Limited physically-distanced group study space
  • Borrowing of Library materials
  • Reference services
  • A welcoming and safe environment

If I am not on campus, can I still get assistance?

Yes. Staff members are monitoring chat and incoming questions during Library hours. Please use our Ask a Question form or connect with a Library staff member by clicking on the ASK US button on this website. A friendly staff member will be available to start a chat. All questions are welcome.

Is the Library lending out print books, journals, and DVDs?

Yes, print materials and DVDs are available to be signed out. Place a request in OneSearch and we will send you an email when your item is ready. Items can either be picked up by appointment Monday-Friday, 10am-3pm, or they can be mailed to you.

Please note: Borrowing of Library materials is limited to current RRC Polytech staff and students.

Can I borrow equipment?

The Library equipment is currently circulating. Our equipment catalogue and borrowing procedure is available online. Please Contact Us with any questions.

Does the Library still provide AV Classroom Support?

No. This service is now handled by the College's new Audio Visual Services department.  

How can the Library assist me through your online service?

Through online chat, email, and virtual meetings, Library staff can assist you in…

  • Gathering together online course materials, whether from the Library collection or external sources
  • Troubleshooting technical issues related to the Library's electronic resources and applications
  • Addressing copyright concerns related to transferring courses to an online environment
  • Locating sources for an assignment or other research
  • Obtaining electronic resources from other academic institutions using Inter-Library Loan
  • Learning how to use online collections and databases

Library staff welcome all questions and will do their best to guide you in the right direction, even if they don't have an immediate answer at hand.

Can instructors request Library Instruction for their classes?

Yes, the Library is currently offering Library Instruction. For more information, visit Reference Services and Library Instruction.

Are Tutoring Services and other academic supports still available?

Yes. The Academic Success Centre (ASC) has academic supports online. Check the ASC website for more information about in-person and online supports and updates.

Can materials still be placed on Course Reserve?

Yes, both physical and electronic materials may be placed on Reserve. To submit a request, please use our Course Reserve Request Form. For more information, please visit our Course Reserves page.

Is copyright assistance available?

Yes, our copyright officer is available for consultation. Please send inquiries to Ebony Novakowski.

I used to be able to visit the Library’s Help Desk for technical support. Is this service available?

An Online ITS Service Desk is available Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and can be accessed via the ITS Service Desk webpage. Note that staff and students need to log in with their college username and password to access this page.

Can I still place requests on items?

Yes, we are circulating Library materials, and requests may be placed.

You may place a request in OneSearch and wait for an email confirming your item is available (please note that items housed at our EDC location will require longer wait times). Requested books/journals can either be picked up at the NDC Library during Library hours or can be mailed with return postage paid. 

Is the Inter-Library Loan service available?

Yes, our Inter-Library Loan service is available, and we are currently lending our print and digital resources to Borrowing Institutions. Please consult our How to Request an Inter-Library Loan page for information about submitting an ILL request online.

What if I have outstanding materials and equipment?

Items may be returned in the book return dropbox outside the exit doors of the EDC or NDC Library locations. There may be a delay before items are discharged from your account. 

How do I return library materials if I am no longer an college staff/student or cannot enter campus?

Library materials can be returned to NDC or EDC security.
