COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN/COMPUTER-AIDED MANUFACTURE (CAD/CAM)

Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAD/CAM), is the use of computers in the design and manufacture of materials. In the design stage, the techniques of drafting and computer graphics are combined to produce models of the object or objects. These models can be manipulated and tested on video display screens until they incorporate the best attainable balance of features, including ease of production and cost. This CAD information is then integrated with CAM procedures through shared databases. CAM engineers similarly use computer modeling to determine the best overall manufacturing procedures for an entire plant.
