RRC Polytech OER Initiative

Phase 5 - Publication

Step 1 - Create Multiple Formats

To make your OER as accessible and usable as possible, it’s important to offer it in a variety of formats. While a Creative Commons license allows for broad reuse, the actual technical openness of your resource—how easily others can access, edit, and adapt it—matters just as much.

For example, a PDF is useful for printing, but offering your OER in web, editable, and offline formats ensures it can be used in more flexible and inclusive ways.

If you're using Pressbooks, you're in luck—it allows you to export your OER in multiple professional formats, including web, PDF (print and digital), EPUB, MOBI, ODT, XML, WXR, and XHTML.

Step 2 - Promotional Plan

Congratulations—you’ve completed and formatted your OER! Now it’s time to think about how you’ll share it with the world.

Promoting your resource is an important part of the publishing process. It helps ensure your OER reaches the learners and educators it was created for. If your institution supported or funded your project through a grant, there may also be an expectation to demonstrate its reach and impact.

Consider how you’ll share your OER with colleagues, students, and your professional network. Promote it through institutional channels, conferences, or social media. Track usage and gather feedback to showcase the success of your project. A thoughtful promotional plan not only helps your resource gain visibility but also highlights the value of open education and the impact of your work. Consider using these resources to support promoting your OER.

Step 3 - Deposit in Library Collection and OER Repositories

Metadata is the descriptive information that helps others find and cite your resource. Each platform may have different metadata requirements; the Library Resources Management team is here to help support you with this step.
