ASC: Supports for Students - English Language Centre

English Conversation Circles

Join the weekly English Conversation Circle, hosted by the Academic Success Centre, to strengthen your speaking skills and build connection and confidence through communication practice.

Students can join each week for continued practice, or for individual sessions. No registration required, just drop in! 

These sessions will run for six weeks, starting the week of January 9th. 

  • Mondays, 12-1pm at NDC, Global Connections Room, D208
    • January 9th - April 10th 
  • Tuesdays, 12-1pm at EDC, P204
    • January 10th - April 11th 
  • Fridays, 2-3pm online, click here to join with Webex
    • January 13th - April 14th 

Each week, the English Conversation Circle will practice different conversational speaking skills, including:

  • Starting a conversation
  • Closing a conversation
  • Interrupting
  • Resuming after an interruption
  • Giving opinions
  • Asking personal questions
  • Keeping the conversation going
  • Checking comprehension

Conversation skills will be practiced around topics of interest to the group, including:

  • Getting to know one another
  • Family and friends
  • Winter activities
  • Cultural practices
  • Getting to know Winnipeg
