Welcome to the PubMed guide

This guide will assist you in using PubMed's new interface. PubMed is a free database that contains more than 30 million citations and abstracts of peer-reviewed biomedical literature. PubMed does not include full-text journal articles; however, links to the full text are often present when available from other sources, such as the publisher's website, PubMed Central (PMC) or the Library collection.

Don’t forget to check out the related guides for similar topics and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thanks, and enjoy!

PubMed Relationships

There are actually three database collections within the PubMed Platform (click on a link to learn more about each database).

  1. PubMed (NCBI Bookshelf)
  2. MEDLINE
  3. PubMed Central

While you can search PMC and MEDLINE independently, by using the PubMed platform you access both these resources and more at the same time.

Want to know more about the relationship between these three collections?
