Sexual Violence Awareness -- Education, Prevention and Supports

We’ve designed this library guide on Sexual Violence Awareness -- Education, Prevention and Supports as a jumping-off point for research and resources related to sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence.

Introduction

Dismantling Rape Culture

“Rape culture” describes the social environment that allows sexual violence to be normalized, trivialized, and even justified. It perpetuates the belief that victims or survivors have contributed to or are responsible for their own assaults.

Dismantling rape culture involves recognizing the pervasiveness of the constructs that support a system that accepts the degradation of survivors. The resources below explore how to confront the challenge of dismantling ingrained ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour.
