This guide is to assist you in finding resources related to topics related to gender and sexual diversity within the 2SLGBTQIA+. The letters in the acronym represent the terms as follows: Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual, while + stands for other ways individuals express their gender and sexuality outside heteronormativity and the gender binary.
Within the guide, you can find resources that touch on activism, resources to help navigate important life stages, and information about barriers and discrimination faced by the gender and sexually diverse community. You will also find resources for education, intersectional perspectives, 2SLGBTQIA+ fiction contained in our "story time" section, and health information.
This guide aims to provide resources for each identity within the acronym. We recognize that communities contain sub-identities, intersectional identities, and emerging and evolving identities and terms. Since 2022, RRC Polytech has started to use the acronym 2SLGBTQIA+ for Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual, while + stands for other ways individuals express their gender and sexuality outside heteronormativity and the gender binary.
Embracing an acronym that begins with the Two-Spirit community is one more way to live our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, and aligned with terminology currently used in post-secondary education institutions across Canada.
