Online learning during COVID-19

Hey everyone,

Chelsey and Cody, along with the entire ASC team wanted to touch on the events that we are all experiencing right now.  As our lives continue to be in flux under the developing conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are learning how to adjust to, and cope with the changes going on here at the College and in our community. Like you, we are learning how to structure online meetings and discussions, finish assignments, study for exams, and make time to take care of ourselves.

Adjusting is a challenge that requires creative thinking, patience, self-forgiveness, humility, and support. Most importantly though, please know that you are not alone in this. We are all in this together as one community. With the resources and technology available at our fingertips, we can reach out to one another to persevere.

Currently, we are updating our student blog series to reflect the evolving circumstances. Our goal in these efforts is to communicate how you can gain the most out of this toolkit of skills during these times. We also hope to propose a few ideas concerning which areas these skills may benefit you more in.

Before diving in, we ask that you kindly take some time to reflect on how you’ve been coping with these changes.

  • How have your coping strategies changed from day-to-day?
  • What has been the biggest change for you? What are some new obstacles you are facing now?
  • And finally, are there any positives that you can see such as spending more time with loved ones and reinvesting in hobbies?

With the circumstances shifting in direction so quickly, it can become difficult to concentrate on assignments and find the motivation to stay on track. As well, the anxiety and stress induced by the uncertainty of when things will go back to normal can get the better of us.

This revised blog series will address questions such as, “how can I stay focused on my work in a time like this?” and of course, “without classes to go to, how on earth do I motivate myself to leave the bed?” Beginning in April, we will be posting our updated entries daily to help you get the most out of online learning while sustaining your mental health.
