ASC: Supports for Students - Academic Coaching and Study Skills

Peer Coaching

What is Peer Coaching?

Peer Coaching is a new service that is available to all enrolled students at Red River College Polytechnic. Peer Coaches are Peer Tutors who have completed additional training to help ease the transition to college for new students. Peer Coaches meet with students one-to-one virtually to:

  • Share tips on how to be successful in college.
  • Share study strategies and resources.
  • Share ASC and Red River College Polytechnic supports.
  • Provide an overview of Red River College Polytechnic learning platforms like MS Teams, Webex, HUB, LEARN, and Office 365.
  • Share and underscore Red River College Polytechnic policies such as Academic Integrity.

How does Peer Coaching work?

Session 1: Led by the Coach

Your Peer Coach will meet with you and lead a 1-hour session to share information, tips, study strategies, and answer any questions you may have. It is recommend that you book this session within the first two weeks of term. At the end of the session, your Peer Coach will discuss a plan to meet for your second and final coaching session.

Session 2: Led by the student

Once you've participated in at least three weeks of classes, we invite you to book your second and final coaching session. During this meeting, you can share about your first few weeks of classes and bring your own questions for your Peer Coach to answer. These questions might include:

  • Is there someone that can help me manage my time better?
  • How do I request a tutor for my course?
  • I'm having a hard time navigating LEARN; is there someone that can help me with this?

Peer Coaches will respond to your questions, share resources, and help connect you with the services and supports available at the College.
