ASC: Supports for Students - Tutoring

Welcome! The Academic Success Centre offers a range of free tutor-led supports designed to help you succeed in your program.

Here you will find information about the tutoring services available at Red River College Polytechnic and how to book an appointment with a tutor online.

Tutors increase student success by working alongside Red River College Polytechnic students to improve content knowledge and academic learning skills. Our tutors help students review, practice, and question new material learned in class and assist students in building the foundational skills needed for success in River College Polytechnic. Tutors strive to help students become independent and confident life-long learners through providing tutorial services in a safe, supportive environment that accommodates a diversity of learning and cultural backgrounds.

About our Tutoring Services:

Peer Tutoring: You may book up to two 1-hour online tutoring appointments per week for individual help in your course. For more information, please click here.

Tutoring: These are appointment-based online meetings with staff tutors aimed for quick questions or content review. You may book up to two 30-minute online tutoring appointments per week with a staff tutor who specializes in your courses. For information on how to book your appointment, please click here.

Academic Coaching and Advising: Book a consultation with an Academic Coach to get help with a variety of essential student skills such as: time management, study planning, adapting to remote learning, technology literacy, communication with faculty and peers, and much more!

Study Groups: Staff tutors work with students in groups by appointment. If you are interested in starting or joining a study group for your program or course, please send an email to tutoring@rrc.ca. 

More Tutoring Options:

Review Workshops: Weekly review workshops provide students opportunities to review and practice new course material under the guidance of a professional ASC tutor. To view the review schedule and Webex links to join the online sessions, please go to our Weekly Review Workshops page. 

Academic Coaching: Coaches work individually with students to set and accomplish academic goals by employing research-backed study and motivational strategies. To request an Academic Coach, please complete the online Tutoring and Coaching Request Form.

Writing Supports: In-person tutoring and writing support through email is available to all Red River College Polytechnic students. Visit the Writing Centre for information on how to book an appointment with a writing tutor, to learn about the ASC's writing supports, and to access resources for studying on your own.

English Language Supports: Is English your second or additional language? English Language Tutors will help you improve your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills for success in your program and industry. Visit the EAL Centre for information on how to book an appointment with an English Language tutor, to learn about the ASC's English Langyage supports, and to access resources for learning on your own.

Academic Supports for Students with Disabilities: If you are a student with a disability, you may be eligible to access free, weekly tutoring or academic coaching support with an ASC staff tutor. To apply, contact Student Accessibility Services and book a consultation with an River College Polytechnic Accessibility Specialist. After meeting with a Accessibility Specialist, eligible students will be referred to the Academic Success Centre (ASC) along with a recommended academic support plan. Courses with tutors available are listed below. Students enrolled in any of these courses are invited to book tutoring appointments from the TracCloud schedule, or join a study group by submitting a Tutor Request Form.

Don't see your course listed below? The Academic Success Centre may still be able to help. Please send an email to tutoring@rrc.ca with the subject 'Tutoring Help' and include the title and course code of your course. After reviewing the course syllabus, we will let you know if one of our tutors can assist with the course content.
